'Shirt City' was the title of the three
afternoons workshop Ed van Hinte gave around the end of februari at
the Department of Architecture of the Chinese University of Hong Kong on
invitation by Prof Shinya Okuda.
A group of 40 students, among which four already involved in Lightness Studios, was assigned to design shell structures for buildings from clothes and wood glue in scale 1:100. A 'pair of pants' therefore is almost 100 meters high.
The students worked in small groups and there were four different building sizes. Bamboo was the most important assisting material. In the end it had to be removed from the structure.
